Being stuck in the rut of happy or sad memories from the past can have a polluting effect on the here and now. As human beings, we sometimes spend so much time reflecting on the happy or sad moments of yesterday that we forget to enjoy the moment that is called today. Life is fragile and short, so it is important for us to spend as much time as possible capturing its beauty in the depths of our soul. We spend so many of our waking hours reliving the past that we miss out on what is right in front of us.
No matter how much we try, we will never be able to bring back what is past, so why allow ourselves to get stuck in its endless line of regrets? On the other hand, people should never leave the past behind. Rather, they should treasure both the pleasant and the painful moments of yesterday. After all, everything happens for a reason and life is a learning experience of which we should all be lifelong students. As such, we should always savor lessons learned from our past and use that knowledge to enrich our portfolio of life experiences.
Life should be lived to its fullest, no matter how easy or difficult a given situation may seem. The truth is that we ought to enjoy our here and now because not one of us is guaranteed a tomorrow. Say what is on your mind and do what you want to do, because yesterday is a memorial of what was and tomorrow is an ethereal dream. Today is the only reality.
What wound have you allowed to poison your today?
What happy memory have you clung tightly to by memorializing it for far too long?
